Need good distortion?

I have a Vox VT15 1x8 Inch 15 Watts Guitar Combo and i also own a Boss DS-1 Classic Distortion Effects Pedal. I want a nice strong sounding distortion, but nothing ever sounds good. What settings can i put my amp to? with or without the pedal? and what amp setting sounds best for blink 182 sounding songs? thanks so much!!
