Will this break my amp or anything?

I have a VOX amp and a multitrack recorder and on the back of my amp there is a VOX foot switch pedal thing that will let u plug in some sort of foot board thing into it. i wanna know if i play through my guitar, plug in a patch cord through that foot switch thing into my recorder, will it record the sound of the amp? or do i have to keep doing it the old school way where i put a mic up to the amp?
